The Cabriere Estate is home to the renown Haute Cabriere wine and Pierre Jourdan wines and is actually two wine farms in the Franschhoek Wine Valley. Over its 300 year, history the Cabriere Estate has perfected the art of wine making. In 1982, the vineyards were replanted and today’s Haute Cabriere sparkling wines are the direct result of that bold change in direction.
The Cabriere Estate consists of far more than two wine farms in a startlingly beautiful wine valley in South Africa. The Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant has a vantage point overlooking the gorgeous Franschhoek Valley, which guests can enjoy as they are served classic cuisine prepared and presented beautifully and served with the perfect accompanying Cabriere wine.
True to the spirit of the Haute Cabriere Estate, the tasting room provides an unequalled experience for the guest in the form of, theatre courtesy of Achim Von Arnims including his using a saber to open bottles of wine, a taste of the history of this famed vineyard, and of course the unequalled Haute Cabriere wine. Groups are small and in keeping with the philosophy of the Cabriere Estate, that wine is intimate, sensual and entirely individual.
The Haute Cabriere wine is an expression of Achim Von Arnims vision and passion for the méthode Champenoise. The Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir is an amazing balance of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with neither overwhelming the other. The fruity taste of Pinot Noir is perfectly complemented by the Chardonnay.
Perhaps this balance is due to the wonderful weather in the Franschhoek Wine Valley, and the exact amount of rain and the perfect soil, and perhaps it is more. The philosophy of The Cabriere Estate is Sun Soil Vine Man inscribed upon a Sundial standing in the center of Cabriere Vineyards. Just as Achim Von Armin’s vision replanted the vineyards and established the Haute Cabriere wine, we know and enjoy today, it can also be said his vision influenced these exquisite wines and without the man, the wines would not be the same. To make truly great wines such as the Haute Cabriere wines, passion is required and a love of the art of winemaking.
Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the Haute Cabriere Estate wines are they are boutique wines and though one can taste the similarity such as fruitiness, elegance, liveliness, with an excellent finish, there are variations in the recipe to adjust for each year’s grapes and still keep the standards of these exquisite wines.
A wine should speak to you and please your palate, as well as your nose. It should not only taste right, but also smell right, have just the right amount of body, and above all be memorable. In a word it should please all of your senses and with each bottle, though each year, it should maintain the standards of the vineyard it came from, and those of the wines from the years before.
